My lucky day!

Saturday Todd sent me to the store with a list of things he wanted to eat (I won't mention how much of it was junk food, oops, just did!). So I load up at Wally World and head to the video store for the all important Scooby Doo movie for Garrett. I decided to stop at Safeway for a couple of things I missed. I totally forgot they were having their grand re-opening after a big remodel. So I spend $3.50 on Oreos and bagged salad and guess what the checker tells me.....I won an iPod Shuffle! I had totally forgotten they were giving those away. I was in shock! I know it's not a huge deal, but it really made my day...OK my month! Who doesn't love free stuff??!!!

Nothing much...plus a wedding!

I haven't been very good about blogging our lives lately, mostly because it's just the same old stuff. Going to the pool when it's nice, staying home when it's not...Todd waiting around for fire calls that don't come nearly often enough in his opinion...not much excitement. We did have a funny little experience early this week though. Garrett woke up first thing Monday morning (5 a.m. to be exact), screaming that his ear hurt. I thought, "Great, an ear infection." As the day wore on he seemed to be doing great though so I decided to give it another day before rushing him to the doctor. The only time he ever complained was when he put on a shirt or when something touched his ear. Then the next day Todd and I were looking at him, and one ear looked like it was literally sticking out twice as far as the other one. I so wish I would have gotten a picture, it was crazy looking. Anyhow, I got him into the doctor and they still don't know exactly what it was, but there was definitely an infection behind his ear...almost like he'd been bitten by something. Hence the ear swelling and making it stick out a mile. Now we have the joy of administering an antibiotic 4 times a day (remember that nasty pink stuff...yeah). Sometimes he gets this determined look in his eye and says, "Yes, mom, I'm gonna do it!" Other times we're not quite so lucky...like the night he sat in the tub screaming after he'd just spit out half of his dose all over himself. The swelling went down after the first 24 hours though so we're glad to see his ear returned to normal!

Yesterday, my cousin Kim got married. This is one of those cousins I use to babysit and it makes me feel REALLY old seeing her as a bride. I also sat there thinking how I can't believe it's been almost ten years since I got married. Crazy! She was a beautiful bride and I got to make her wedding cake. I really enjoyed this one and although I see all the imperfections, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Congratulations Kim and Kolby!

Yum-O

I. Love. Breakfast. Almost all of my favorite foods would qualify as breakfast foods. So when I started hearing about this thing called a German Pancake I started getting curious. My cousin was almost drooling just talking about it. So....this morning I pulled out my recipe books and found a few recipes to go by. I have to say I was definitely NOT disappointed. Oh my goodness! Yum! Why have I never had this before??? So I only got one picture before my camera batteries died and it's not the prettiest thing ever, but I have to tell you it was soooo good. Even Todd was impressed. I think this one's going to be made quite often around here.

German Pancakes:
1 cup milk
1 cup flour
6 eggs
1/4 tsp. salt
6 Tbsp. butter (although I think I'm going to try a little less next time)

With blender or mixer, combine milk, flour, eggs, and salt. In a 9x13 inch pan (I used 9x9), melt butter in hot oven until sizzling. Pour batter into hot pan and bake at 450 for 25 minutes. Serve with syrup, powdered sugar, or fruit topping.

We're havin a....

GIRL! Woohoo....GIRLS 3, BOYS 2 We win! :) That makes it official, although I never really admitted it, I thought I was having a boy. I've been wrong every time! Much to my brothers' dismay we found out, neither of them have found out with any of their kids (that's 7 between the two of them). I just had to know. It's too hard to say "the baby" all the time and "it" just wasn't working out so well for me. Especially with all the flips and kicks she's doing in there, I'm referring to her much more often these days. So here she is, already showing her stubbornness by not letting us get a 3D shot of her face, see those little arms shielding it?!

We did get a profile shot that looks like she'll have the mohawk to match Garrett's! (OK, they said it was just movement)

Here's her little foot. She's already been getting some well placed kicks in.
