Memorial Day Weekend 2010

This year we decided we needed a mini-vacation on Memorial Day Weekend. It was a jam-packed weekend so be warned this is a LONG post! We decided to head to Spokane for a few days to have fun with the kids and visit family. The kids were so excited to stay in a hotel and go swimming. Friday night we did just that. We had dinner delivered, then headed to the pool. Garrett was the only one of the kids who went in the pool for any length of time and he and I had a great time racing eachother from one end of the pool to the other. It wore them out pretty well and it was off to bed.

The next day we did a little shopping and took the kids to Build-A-Bear in the mall. They had so much fun picking out their animals and the outfits to go with them. Garrett got a wolf, and the girls each got a puppy. The wolf is now named "Skywalker" and is dressed like a stormtrooper from Star Wars! Lauren picked out a pink dress for her "Puppy", and it was just bows for Ella's "Doggy" :) My girls are sooo creative in naming animals!

After shopping we went to a baseball game and out to dinner with Todd's dad and brothers. It was great to see them even though our kids were out of control at dinner. Todd being much more adventurous than me when it comes to food, tried the baby octopus. He said it wasn't too bad! Kinda wish I would have had my camera with me to catch a shot of that.

We headed back to the hotel, all of us hoping to jump in the pool when we got there. The four baseball teams staying in the hotel had the same idea! Needless to say we headed straight to the room and put on a movie for the kids.

The next morning we headed to the Children's Museum and while Todd and I were slightly disappointed in what they had to offer, the kids had a really good time. Afterward we took a walk through Riverfront Park. I'm pretty sure the kids' favorite thing about the park was the man who made them mouse and a sword out of balloons! Although they thought the fountain, the ducks, and the river were pretty great too. After visit with Todd's grandparents, we headed toward home with an overnight stop at my mom's.

Memorial Day we gathered as a family once again to put flowers on the graves of all our loved ones who have passed on. It's always a great time to be had when we all get together. The food was yummy as always. We dealt with some wind and rain, but stuck it out and even enjoyed a family softball game (I was a spectator, of course). We were a worn out bunch by the time we made it home, but we're so grateful for such an awesome weekend full of family and making memories!
